Honouring An Unsung Canadian Hero!

Woodrow S. Lloyd (1961-1964). Saskatchewan Archives Board R-A245, © M. West, Regina, West's Studio Collection Did you know that this Saturday, July 16th is the anniversary of the late Woodrow Lloyd's birthday?...his 103rd to be exact! Wondering who Woodrow Lloyd is? We all should, because we have him to thank for our healthcare system here in Canada and he hailed from Saskatchewan. We all know Lester Pearson,  Emmet Hall, and of course the wonderful Tommy Douglas, but it was Woodrow Lloyd who doggedly pushed forward to implement the system when doctors withdrew services in an attempt to block it.

Sadly, his efforts have been overshadowed by some of the more well known players in the fight for a national healthcare system but his story is told in a new song (somewhat ironically) called  Tommy Douglas on Sue and Dwight’s newly released CD ‘For A Moment’.
