It Depends On How We Look At Things

The Story Behind the Song
posted by Sue
One day I was feeling really down about something. As he often does in these situations, Dwight encouraged me to “put on some rose-coloured glasses” and try to look at what was happening more positively, assuring me things would improve if I did. Inspired by his conviction, I decided to write a song to share that advice.
I did a little research before I started writing and was very interested to learn studies have shown that rose-coloured lenses actually enhance detail and increase depth of field, bringing the view of the wearer into a sharper focus. This leads to a more optimistic outlook. And while physical lenses achieve that, positive thinking can do the same thing.
We really need that positivity these days when so much of the world is in turmoil. And if re-framing how we view the world helps us to cope and increases happiness, let’s do it! Now, as the song says, we can’t wear them all the time but at least we’ll enjoy it when we can.

Lyrics:
Verse 1
Some think I’m a dreamer with my head in the sand
But I’m not afraid to take a stand
I will fight, for what is right
But I won’t let it drag me down
Chorus 1
I just put on my rose coloured glasses
And see the world this way
Beautiful hues of pink replacing shades of grey
Clouds of candy floss raining pink champagne
And I can’t help but smile on this perfect day
Verse 2
When the news is bad and nothing’s going right
And everything becomes a fight
Tempers flaring, nobody caring
And it becomes too much to bear
Chorus 2
Put on some rose coloured glassed
And trust me when I say
You will see the world in a different way
Orchards of cherry blossoms, streams of pink lemonade
And just like that, it’s a perfect day
Bridge
Just like that, it’s a perfect day
Verse 3
I understand that I can’t wear them all the time
But keep them close at hand for when I’m
Feeling tense, nothing makes sense
And I just need to get away
Chorus 3
And through my rose coloured glasses
This is what I see
Beauty all around, the way that it should be
It may be temporary, nothing stays the same
But in that moment, it’s a perfect day
Chorus 4
Put on those rose coloured glasses
And see the world this way
Beautiful hues of pink replacing shades of grey
Clouds of candy floss raining pink champagne
And you can’t help but smile on this perfect day
And we can’t help but smile on this perfect day
This perfect day
